CMS proposes overhaul of Medicare ACO Program

Proposed rule: “Pathways to Success” to set new direction for Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP)

CMS has issued a press release outlining its proposal to overhaul the MSSP. The redesigned program is called “Pathways to Success” and aims to encourage Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) to accept greater levels of risk in return for greater flexibility to innovate and deliver high-quality care.

In a recent blog article, CMS Administrator Seema Verma explains more about the key features of the initiative, and provides an overview of the proposal. For full details, read the CMS Fact Sheet.

CMS is seeking comments on the proposed rule until October 16, 2018.
